Santiago de Chile: Spanish, wine tasting, skiing & special offers!

Santiago is the capital and largest city of Chile, located in the country's central valley. Chile's steady economic growth has transformed Santiago into one of Latin America's most modern metropolitan areas, with extensive suburban development, dozens of shopping malls, and impressive high-rise architecture.
It is an Alpha World City and has some of Latin America's most modern transport infrastructure, such as the growing Santiago Metro and the new Costanera Norte, a toll-based highway system that passes underneath downtown and connects the Eastern and Western extremes of the city in a 25-minute drive.
The weather of Santiago is a warm-temperate climate with winter rainfall and prolonged dry season, better known as continental Mediterranean climate.

Historical buildings from the Spanish colonial period include the Casa Colorada (1769), the Church San Francisco (1586) and Posada del Corregidor (1750). Other highlights in Santiago include:
- Parque Metropolitano is a vast park in Cerro San Cristóbal, with a beautiful view over the city and, on a clear day, the Andes. The summit can be reached by funicular, cable car, or a long hike. In the park there is also a botanical garden, zoo and two swimming pools.
- Plaza de Armas is the capital's main plaza, also the site of the national cathedral and main post office; an interesting area of major historical importance.
- Santiago Centro (downtown) is a nice place for a stroll down some of its major Paseos (streets turned pedestrian walkways).
- Cerro Santa Lucia is a park with fountains and stairs leading up to the top. The summit has a great view of all the city centre.
Spanish and wine in Chile
Learning how to taste wines is an adventure that will deepen your appreciation for both wines and winemakers. Look, smell and taste: start with your basic senses and expanding from there, explore the wines of Chile and learn to enjoy and choose the right wine for any occasion. You can smell thousands of unique scents, but your taste perception is limited to salty, sweet, sour and bitter. It is the combination of smell and taste that allows you to discern flavour.
At TANDEM Santiago, you can combine your Group Spanish Course with an additional module of 4 classes given by the Sommelier Hugo Salgado. This wine tasting course includes tasting 5 different Chilean wines, which will give you a complete overview of the Chilean Oenology. The classes are held on one afternoon from 7.00 p.m. - 10.15 p.m.
