Cadiz, the oldest continuously-inhabited city in the Iberian Peninsula, is a city and port in south-western Spain, capital of the Cadiz Province.

Cadiz has been a principal home port of the Spanish Navy since the accession of the Spanish Bourbons in the 18th century. It is also the site of the University of Cádiz.

With its unique location on a narrow spit of land surrounded by the sea, Cadiz is still in most aspects a typically Andalusian city, with a wealth of attractive vistas and well-preserved historical landmarks. The older part of Cadiz, within the remnants of the city walls, is characterized by the antiquity of its various quarters, among them «El Populo», «La Viña», and «Santa Maria», and by narrow winding alleys which connect large plazas.

The city's skyline is not substantially different than it was in medieval times. A seventeenth-century watchtower, the Tavira Tower, still commands a panoramic view of the city and the bay despite its relatively modest 45-metre height.

In addition, the city is dotted by numerous parks with exotic plants, including giant trees supposedly brought to Spain by Columbus.

Melkart Spanish Language School – TANDEM Cadiz

The school of Spanish Melkart was founded in 1995 with the main aim of teaching Spanish with an excellent teaching method and a myriad of extracurricular activities including BBQ's on the beach, excursions, flamenco, concerts and exchange programs. After 15 years of teaching experience we have developed our own didactic materials.

The school itself is a typical Andalusian house from 1856 which is situated in the old town of Cadiz. It has three floors, an Andalusian patio, two terraces, eight classrooms, a multiuse lounge (library, video room, free Internet and Wi-Fi), office, teacher's lounge and three bathrooms. The house is situated between the nicest places of the city, between «Plaza de Mina» and «La Alameda», a promenade with a view to Cadiz Bay.

Melkart is the Phoenician name of Hercules who was the mythological founder of the city.

The Melkart Spanish School is accredited by the Instituto Cervantes and it is a DELE Examination Center. It is also associated to ELITE, FEDELE and AEEA, and homologated by Bildungsurlaub Germany and CSN Sweden.
